Mangru and Roberts had been charged with having in their possession 1.1g of cannabis each on October 15, 2015. On the same day, while at the Alberttown Police Station, the siblings allegedly escaped custody.

Magistrate Azore, in explaining the verdict, stated that she was satisfied with the facts presented by the prosecution, who stated that both defendants knew they were under arrest and they were both booked and placed on the prisoner’s bench prior to fleeing.

They had both pleaded guilty to the narcotic charge and were subsequently fined $5,000 each and ordered to perform three months of community service.
