No bail for mechanic over alleged death threat, illegal gun and ammo

A Berbice mechanic was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with threatening to kill a woman and having an unlicensed gun and ammunition in his possession.

Ronald Seebachan, 30, of West Coast Berbice, was read three charges by Magistrate Judy Latchman.

It was alleged that on February 21, at Aranka Junction, Cuyuni River, Essequibo, he had a .38 revolver and two 9mm live rounds while not being a licensed firearm holder. Seebachan was also charged with making use of threatening behaviour towards Kendall Williams on the same day at the same location.

The accused, a mechanic, pleaded not guilty to the three charges.

Bail was objected by the prosecution given that no special reason was offered by the accused. He also said that the fact that the accused threatened to kill Williams while he was in possession of a gun calls for concern for her safety.

Seebachan was subsequently remanded to prison until February 26, when another hearing is scheduled.
