Body of Brazilian woman found in Konawaruk shallow grave

The decomposing body of a Brazilian woman was found in a shallow grave at Muruwa Backdam, Konawaruk River on Sunday afternoon bearing a laceration to the head.

Dead is Maria Souza Da Silva, 43, who was a gold miner of Boa Vista, Brazil.

Her companion, Matogrose (only name given), with whom she was last seen alive on December 1st, 2015, is missing and it is suspected that he has since gone into hiding. Several checks were made for him by investigators who came up empty-handed.

Stabroek News understands that the discovery was made around 4.15pm on Sunday by a friend of the couple who was in the area at the time. The man observed the camp to be unoccupied and upon making further checks he discovered the shallow grave some distance behind the camp. Da Silva was last seen alive with Matogrose while they were both transported by a driver from Konawaruk road to Muruwa Backdam.

Police investigations are ongoing.
