Man committed to stand trial for murder of sex worker

Ron ‘Andel’ Forde, one of the men accused of killing sex worker Noel Wilson Luthers, called ‘Nephi,’ was committed to stand trial at the next sitting of the assizes by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

The decision was made yesterday at the close of the Preliminary Inquiry into the charge against Forde. In his final statements the defendant told the court that he was innocent of the offence.

He was later asked by the Chief Magistrate if he wanted to call any witness to testify in relation to the matter and he stated that he would not be calling any witnesses.

The Chief Magistrate told Forde that she was satisfied with the case and evidence presented by the prosecution against him as it relates to the alleged murder and subsequently stated that he is to stand trial at the next sitting of the assizes.

It was further stated that Forde is to remain on remand until time for trial.

On August 13, 2015, Forde, 43, was arraigned on the charge of murdering Luthers on July 22, at Quamina and Carmichael streets.

Businessman Kanand Ojha, the other suspect in the matter, has been on the run since then.

Police had said that around 2.35 am on July 22, Luthers was confronted by two men at Quamina and Carmichael streets and one of them shot him to the chest and escaped. He was later pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
