Two die in Mahaica, Corentyne accidents

A Corentyne motorcyclist and a Helena No.2 pedestrian are the latest traffic fatalities, the police said yesterday.

The police said that investigations are being conducted into a fatal accident that occurred at about 1000h yesterday on the No. 70 Village Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, and which resulted in the death of motor cyclist Jewram Kbublallchand, 45 years, of No. 75 Village, Corentyne.

Investigations so far have revealed that the driver of a motor lorry attempted to overtake the motorcyclist who was hit by the tray of the lorry. The police say that Khublallchand was taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he succumbed while receiving medical treatment.

The driver of the motor lorry is in police custody assisting with the investigations.

Meanwhile, investigations are being conducted into a fatal accident that occurred at about 2340h. on Saturday on Unity Public Road, ECD, and which resulted in the death of pedestrian Deodat Ram, 48 years, of Helena No.2, Mahaica.

The police say that it is suspected that Ram was struck down by a motorcyclist while he was walking along the roadway. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the GPHC.

The motorcycle was found abandoned at the scene without the registration number.
