Student granted bail on wounding charge

A University of Guyana student was placed on $75,000 bail when he appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on a charge of unlawful and malicious wounding.

It is alleged that on December 3, 2015, Orin Wilson unlawfully and maliciously wounded Carval Profitt. Wilson, of Lot 150 Cornelius Avenue, South Ruimveldt Gardens, pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by the Chief Magistrate. Charlene Fung-A-Fat, Wilson’s attorney, while making application for his bail, told the court that her client is a single father of two and is a third-year University of Guyana student.

Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones, who had no objection to bail, told the court that the defendant and the virtual complainant reside in the same house but they occupy two separate rooms. He also added that the police file in the matter is incomplete, and requested more time.

Wilson was subsequently granted bail. His matter was adjourned until April 12 for statements.
