GPL network hit by outages

The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) yesterday said that at approximately 10:40 am on Monday, damaged line hardware at Clonbrook, ECD resulted in a line trip which caused an interruption in the supply of electricity from Unity, Mahaica to Lowlands until 4:45 pm.

However, at 11:30 on Monday night, a fallen tree caused severe damage to the network and affected the same area. Owing to the weather constraints and time of occurrence, GPL said that remedial work began at sunrise which resulted in electricity being restored at 09:15 am yesterday.

GPL further said that customers from Industrial Site to Houston have been without electricity from 10 am on Monday due to a yet to be determined fault. GPL said its technicians are carrying out detailed checks on the affected feeder to ascertain and correct the fault.

A defective transformer, which has since been isolated from the network, also resulted in sections of Houston to Agricola being without power from 10:00hrs on Monday to 3 am yesterday while consumers from Diamond Public Road to Eccles were affected from 10:00 am to 18:30 pm on Monday.
