Albouystown youth remanded on gun possession charge

A Callender Street, Albouystown resident was yesterday refused bail on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm when he appeared before a city court.

The accused, Adam Mohammed, 25, of Lot 22 Callender Street Albouystown, was read a charge that states that on March 12, at North East La Penitence, he had a .22 pistol in his possession without being the holder of a firearm licence. Mohammed pleaded not guilty to the charge that was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

Police prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to bail based on the penalty and prevalence of the offence that was allegedly committed by the defendant.

The Chief Magistrate subsequently denied bail and remanded Mohammed to prison. His matter was adjourned until April 5 for report.
