A Corentyne man was yesterday sentenced to three years in jail after he admitted to having two grammes of cocaine in his possession.
Ray Singh, who appeared before city magistrate Faith McGusty, pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of the drug for trafficking, which carries a minimum mandatory sentence of three years.
The cocaine was allegedly found on Singh on March 17th, at the Kitty Police Station.
According to the prosecution, on the day in question, at about 4.30am, Singh was arrested and taken to the Kitty Police Station after he attempted to commit a felony. Subsequent to his arrival at the station, a search was carried out and a Ziploc plastic bag, containing four small pieces of a white, rock-like substance, later confirmed to be cocaine, was found on him.
The accused was later told of the offence and was charged.
In addition to the jail sentence, Singh was fined $30,000.
