Corentyne sisters terrorised in Easter Monday attack

Two sisters of Port Mourant, Corentyne, are now traumatised after four men invaded their home on Monday night and robbed them of a quantity of jewellery and electronics.

During the attack, one of the women was bitten by a bandit as he tried to remove her ring.

According to a police source, one person has been arrested in connection with the attack.

The women, who asked not to be named, told Stabroek News that they left home around 5pm on Monday to spend time with family members.

The women, who are sisters and live together, returned home around 8pm. As they were opening their door on the upper flat of the two-storey house, they said four men approached them from behind and instructed them to be quiet and to go inside the house.

One of the men was armed with a gun, while another had a knife.

The women said that three of the men wore masks, while the other did not.

One of the sisters, who is 51 and whose late husband was the owner of a snackette and bakery in Port Mourant, said that the bandits were demanding to see a safe.

According to her, she got rid of it after her husband’s death two years ago. She said after she told the bandits that she did not have a safe, the men pushed them to the ground and tied their hands behind their backs and tied their feet. The woman said she told the bandits that she did not have money in the house, since they do not work and are supported by their family overseas. She said that one of the bandits then said, “How you have a big house and you nah get money?” She said the bandits then went on to ransack the entire house.

The other sister, who is 54, said she was bitten by one of the bandits. She explained that the bandit bit her trying to take off her ring. She added that after she yelled, he started to hit her on the head. He then slid the ring off using a knife. Both women were beaten by the bandits.

The bandits got away with a $260,000 gold chain, a $20,000 gold ring, a pair of gold bangles valued $120,000, an $80,000 diamond ring, a $20,000 gold wedding ring, a $150,000 gold bracelet, two iPads, a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone, valued at $150,000, an iPhone, a knife and a tool box.
