City warns against coconut water in recycled bottles

The City Public Health Department is cautioning consumers against purchasing coconut water in recycled bottles.

In a statement yesterday, the city said that it has been observed that some coconut vendors continue to recycle glass bottles which are used to store coconut water for sale.  The City Health Depart-ment is concerned that these bottles are not always properly sterilised and this can compromise the health of persons who purchase coconut water.

The City Health Depart-ment says it wants customers to know that they cannot be assured of the source of the bottle used to store coconut water and method used to sterilise them.

“Hence, every measure should be taken by customers to safeguard their own health. It may be convenient to purchase coconut water that has been poured into a bottle; however, customers should not compromise their health for convenience…it is safer to use coconut water from the coconut or consumers should use their own containers when purchasing coconut water”, the city said.

The city also said that very soon coconut water vendors would have to be properly attired.
