“You know, I own a business so as it is customary I would always check everything when I am closing up and normally move stuff and he was in the yard sitting. I had already closed the gate and he said he wanted to sleep but then he changed his mind and he said he wanted to go home,” Bisnauth’s family friend Bibi (only name given) told Stabroek News yesterday. She said that she opened her gate to allow him to leave as was customary most nights.

“When I opened the gate and he went outside he stood there and told me to take care so I watched him cross the road and when he was over I lock the gate cause I said to myself that he’s safe now,” she said, unknown to her that it would be the last time she would see him alive. She said that after she turned around and proceeded towards her home she heard a loud crash. “I just hear the car speed by and a loud crash and at first I thought it was a dog get hit or something but then I thought back and realised that the sound was too loud so I called my children and rushed outside,” she added, stating that she didn’t think it was Bisnauth who was hit since he was safe in the corner. She said that after she ran out with her children her worst fear was confirmed when they found him lying  in a nearby bush.

They placed him in the car that hit him and rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Bisnauth’s nephew, who had seen the man several minutes before his demise, recalled seeing his body flying in the air. “I was walking home after I left the shop too and I just heard the noise and when I turn back I saw a dark thing spin up in the air and then land on the ground. At first I didn’t think it was my uncle but I remember he was walking behind me and when I realized that I wasn’t seeing him anymore I knew it was him,” he said.
