Police constable feared dead after boat overturns at Amatuk Falls

During today, Police Special Constable 14536 Akeem Hyles, 22 years, of the Tactical Services Unit was among a team of Joint Services personnel and officials of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) in a boat in the Amatuk Falls area, Potaro River, when the vessel capsized and he is suspected to have drowned, the police say.

The body has not been been found. The police had earlier mistakenly said that the body had been found.

Special Constable Hyles had departed Ogle Airport this morning among other ranks who were dispatched to assist the GGMC officials in dealing with illegal mining that was being carried out in the Kaieteur National Park area.

The Guyana Police Force is extending sincere condolences to the parents, relatives and friends of Special Constable Hyles.
