Handyman drowns at Kitty seawall

The body of a 52-year-old man was discovered at the Kitty seawall on Sunday afternoon in the vicinity of Celina’s Resort and an autopsy performed yesterday revealed that he died as a result of drowning.

Dead is Ramesh Ramdeen of Lot 106 Shell Road, Kitty. He was known for carrying out odd jobs around his area and the Kitty Market and according to reports was frequently under the influence of alcohol.

Speaking to Stabroek News yesterday, his sister Desiree Ramdeen said she last saw him alive just after midday on Sunday. She said she was unaware of when he left the house.

According to the woman it was around 1.30 pm on Sunday that a market vendor who is known to the family visited their home and informed her of the discovery. As a result, she said she immediately contacted another brother, who made his way to the seawall and positively identified the remains.

Desiree said Ramesh sometimes went to swim and that he was a good swimmer. “But on Sunday he was drunk…  I don’t know what happen,” she said.

She said based on information received, Ramesh was seen walking on the seawall, prior to the discovery.

The body bore no marks of violence.

Ramesh who previously worked as a barber and painter will be laid to rest today.
