Ex-worker charged with embezzling nearly $1M from Public Security Ministry

A former employee was yesterday charged with embezzling almost $1 million from the Ministry of Public Security.

Anthony Niles, of 134 Victoria Street, Albouystown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and was read a charge which stated that between November 2, 2015 and November 16, 2015, at Georgetown, while employed as a clerk or servant, he embezzled $918,417, from the Ministry of Public Security.

Niles pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate granted him his release on $200,000 bail but ordered that he report every Friday to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Eve Leary.

The matter will be called again on May 16.
