‘Nasty Man’ jailed for two years on gun, ammo charges

Delon Henry, called ‘Nasty Man’ was yesterday sentenced to two years imprisonment and fined $100,000 at the closure of his trial in relation to a charge that he had in his possession on October 4, 2015, at Agricola, a .38 revolver and eight live matching rounds of ammunition without being the holder of the necessary licences.

Prior to handing down her ruling Magistrate Fabayo Azore told the court that the prosecution’s case relied on its main witness, Detective Corporal Derwin Eastman, the officer who had found the gun and ammunition on Henry during a search.

The magistrate further stated that she could not rely on the oral statement, “Officer Eastman, I gat to walk with this gun to protect myself from ‘Mafia,’ ’cause he hunting me with AK-47 ’cause he seh I kill he brother,” which Eastman alleged the defendant gave.

According to the magistrate, the court was led to believe Eastman when he stated that the firearm and ammunition were found on the defendant and as a result found the defendant guilty.

In mitigation, Henry, 25, told the court that he is being victimized by Eastman, adding that he did not commit the offence.

However, Henry was sentenced to two 2 years imprisonment on the firearm charge and two years on the ammunition charge along with a fine of $50,000 for each charge.

The charges are expected to run concurrently.
