Parfait Harmonie man dies after car submerged in trench

Investigations are currently being conducted into the circumstances surrounding a vehicular accident which occurred on Tuesday evening at Parfait Harmonie and claimed the life of a 36-year-old resident of the area.

Naresh Kumar of Lot 289 Thirteenth Street, Parfait Harmonie, West Bank Demerara was pulled from his submerged car and rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Stabroek News was made to understand that police were summoned to the area around 9.30 pm on Tuesday, after a report was received of a car having been seen submerged in the nearby trench.

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined as details remain sketchy. However, unconfirmed reports indicate that Kumar may have attempted to swerve from an animal running across the road resulting in him losing control of his car and ending up in the trench.

Kumar’s car which carried number plate PSS 2326 was also said to have been badly damaged.

Kumar’s relatives were at a loss as to what may have caused the accident.

However, one relative speculated that Kumar may have drowned. It was related that because of the damage the car sustained, it took some time to get him out.

Nevertheless, his brother, Dinesh Kumar said that a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted tomorrow to determine his cause of death.

Kumar, who was employed as a salesman with the Superfoods Company leaves to mourn his wife and two children along with his mother and other siblings.
