Told to find a job, man assaults his mother

A 21-year-old man appeared in court yesterday charged with assaulting his mother after she told him to go and get a job.

The court heard that on May 1, at North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, Omadelle Grant unlawfully assaulted Samantha Saul. Grant pleaded guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Magistrate Alex Moore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

According to Police Prosecutor Corporal Singh, on the day in question Grant and Saul were having a heated conversation when Grant threw a mug of drink into his mother’s face.

Grant told the court that his mother was the one who started the argument as she had told him something really bad that caused him to throw the drink in her face.

When asked by the magistrate what the bad thing was, Grant replied, “She told me to go and look for a wuk.”

Saul who was also present, told the court that she believes her son is mentally ill and needs help.

Magistrate Moore placed Grant on an eight-month bond to keep the peace, if breached he will be sentenced to four weeks in prison.
