It is alleged that on May 3rd, at Fifth Street, Section ‘A,’ Block ‘Y,’ Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, Khan, 28, drove GFF 9553 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Keturah Dalgetty.

Khan, a driver for a chicken processing farm, pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him in the city court of Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who set bail at $500,000.

Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones had no objections to bail. However, he recommended that conditions be applied before bail is granted to Khan. According to Jones, on the day in question, the driver was reversing his vehicle on the road when he hit Dalgetty, who fell and he rolled over her. When the driver realised what had happened, Jones said, he placed her in a taxi and took her to the Diamond Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The Chief Magistrate granted Khan his release on bail, with the condition that he reports to the traffic office at Grove Police Station every Friday. His driver’s licence was also suspended until the completion of his trial. The matter was adjourned until May 24th.
