Albouystown man gets bail on gun, ammo charges

An Albouystown man, who was charged with illegal firearm and ammunition possession, was yesterday granted bail by a city magistrate.

Dexter Anthony Bharrat was first remanded on March 22 after he was charged with having in his possession a .45 pistol and six .45 live rounds of ammunition without being a licensed firearm holder.

Appearing before Magistrate Allan Wilson yesterday, Bharrat’s attorney, Ronald Burch-Smith, made the request for bail citing special reasons.

Although bail was objected to by the prosecution, Bharrat’s bail was set at $175,000; $100,000 for the firearm and $75,000 for the ammunition.

The matter is set to be called again shortly.
