Labourer stabbed to death during drinking spree

A drinking spree ended tragically on Sunday evening when a labourer was stabbed to death allegedly by his friend.

The dead man has been identified as 54-year-old Kawal Persaud. His friend, Lakeram Shankar, a security guard was detained by investigators.

The incident occurred around 7 pm on Sunday at Lot 17 Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD) where the two friends were attending a party.

Reports revealed that they were seen sitting on a bench in front of the premises consuming alcohol and then they had a heated exchange of words.

Shankar reportedly whipped out a knife and dealt Persaud a single stab wound to his abdomen and he collapsed and died on spot.

Investigations are ongoing.
