Shots fired, elderly man beaten, robbed on Regent St

A pensioner was beaten and robbed of a haversack containing $200,000 cash yesterday afternoon in the vicinity of the City Constabulary, Regent Street, Georgetown when he was attacked by a lone gunman.

The incident occurred around 13:30 hours.

Stabroek News understands that Don Ramkarran, 79 of Lot 24 Charlestown, Georgetown visited the Scotiabank, Robb Street outlet to withdraw the cash and while in the vicinity of the City Constabulary, the suspect approached him and held him at gunpoint.

As a result, a scuffle ensued between Ramkarran and the gunman during which Ramkarran suffered several blows about his body with the firearm and was relieved of the cash.

At this point, a licenced firearm holder who was in the vicinity discharged several rounds in the air to scare off the suspect who in return fired a shot and escaped.

The gunman then entered a motor car and escaped.

Investigations are  ongoing.
