Driver in Bushy Park fatal accident regains consciousness

The driver involved in the Bushy Park, East Bank Essequibo accident that claimed one life, has regained consciousness after spending almost two weeks in the Intensive Care Unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Denzil Moore, of Port Kaituma, North West District suffered head contusions and a concussion when the vehicle turned turtle around 2 am on April 25.

He has since been admitted in the High Dependency Unit of the hospital and a family member told Stabroek News that he is relieved that the man’s condition has improved.

Shawn Spellen, 20, a soldier of Stewartville, West Coast Demerara, who lost his life in the early morning crash was laid to rest on Friday.

Two others; Orandy Caleb and Rayon Jeffrey also of Port Kaituma, who also suffered head injuries along with broken bones have been discharged from hospital. The other occupant, Keron Moore, 20, of Stewartville who sustained bruises about his body was discharged from hospital the same day.

Keron, a student of a private school, said he was sitting in the tray of the Toyota Hilux pick-up, when the driver apparently lost control at the turn, which has a deep ‘drop.’

He recalled that, “Everything happened so fast…” He fell out of the tray into a small trench and knew nothing else until he awoke in a hospital bed.
