Serojanie Ramkarran, the 71-year-old who was discovered dead at her Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo home on Tuesday morning, died as a result of cardiac arrest, according to an autopsy.
Her husband, 75-year-old Ramkarran, who was detained for questioning after he was reported to have beaten the woman, has since been released.
The day before the woman’s death, she and her husband had been drinking with friends and the man had reportedly physically abused her.
Around 5.30 am on Tuesday, Serojanie was found leaning against a window in the lower flat, where she had locked herself to escape beatings. She was bleeding from a small wound to one of her feet.
