Miner accused of wounding over cellphone

A miner was last Friday remanded to prison after he was charged with allegedly wounding another man over a cellphone.

Levi Stephens, 20, was brought before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who read the charge that on May 19, at 111 Miles Potaro Landing, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Desmond Granada.

Stephens was not required to plead to the charge.

Bail was objected to by the prosecution based on the seriousness of the offence and the fact that Granada was not yet discharged from the hospital. It was the prosecution which noted that the wounding as over a cellphone.

Stephens was remanded to prison by the Chief Magistrate, who adjourned the matter to July 18, when it will be heard at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court.
