Cops arrest man wanted for shooting Linden woman

The police yesterday arrested Colwyn Croal, who was wanted in connection with several crimes, including the recent attempted murder of a Linden resident and her employer.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum yesterday confirmed that police, acting on information received, went to a location in Tabatinga, Lethem around 9.30 am yesterday and arrested Croal, called ‘Alex Croal,’ 47.

He is currently in custody. The Guyana Police Force had issued a wanted bulletin for Croal on April 13, almost one week after he allegedly attempted to murder Simone Belle and Sherwin Hughes on April 3, at Half Mile, Wismar, Linden.

In a statement issued previously, the police had said investigations into the attack revealed that Belle had just arrived home in a vehicle driven by Hughes, when shots were discharged at them in the vehicle by a man who is reported to have shared a relationship with Belle. The relationship ended several months prior.

Belle was shot four times, while Hughes sustained two bullet wounds.

They were rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex and subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) before being discharged.

Apart from this matter, Croal was also wanted by the police for discharging a loaded firearm and other offences.
