Umobile wins large float top prize

Umobile (Digicel) won the top prize in the large float category of Thursday’s Float and Costume Band Parade and Olympia Small Sonaram was adjudged the best designer.

According to a Ministry of Education press release, the winners of the Large, Medium and Small Full Costume Categories were Umobile, Ministry of Communities and Region #6 respectively. In the Large subcategory, Region #3 placed second and Honest Illusion & Preston Paul placed third. In the Medium Subcategory, the Ministry of Public Health placed second, the Ministry of Natural Resources placed third, and the Ministries of Social Protection and Public Infrastructure tied in fourth place, while in the Small subcategory, the Ministry of Finance placed second and the Guyana Ex Police Association placed third.

The Amazon Warriors, Demerara Village Guyana Inc and Jumbo Jet were the winners of the Large, Medium and Small Semi Costume categories respectively. In the Large subcategory, the Association of Ex-Guyana National Service placed second.

The winner of the Male Individual category was the Ministry of Public Infrastructure while Umobile (Digicel) won in the Female Individual category. The Queen and King titles in the Individual category were awarded to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Public Infrastructure respectively.

In the Commercial Float Category, Umobile (Digicel) placed first, while Jumbo Jet placed second. The winners of the Non-Commercial Float category were the Ministry of Agriculture in third place, the Ministry of Communities in second place and the Ministry of Agriculture in first place.

The Ministry of Education came in second place in the Floats with Revellers category while the Ministry of Natural Resources won first place.

According to the release, twenty-nine groups registered for and participated in the Float and Costume Band Parade which started at 11:00 am from Stabroek Market with the Children’s groups and moved along Brickdam with the last Band, Ministry of Public Infrastructure, arriving at D’Urban Park at approximately 7:00 pm.
