The court heard that between May 13 and 21, near Cuyuni River, Essequibo, Trenton McCloud, 61, stole one impeller, a chainsaw, several empty drums and 5 gallons of oil, amounting to a total value of $267,000 belonging to Ivor Goddette. McCloud pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

According to McCloud who was unrepresented by an attorney, the items were never stolen. He admitted to having the items in his possession. McCloud told the court that Goddette had owed him money and as a result he took some of the items but eventually returned the chainsaw. He said that at that time he was sick and wanted to come out of the interior so he left the remaining items in at a mining camp. As a result a report was made that the items were stolen and he was arrested.

Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones had no objections to bail.

McCloud was subsequently granted $50,000 bail by the Chief Magistrate. His matter was adjourned until June 20 and transferred to the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court.
