The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the murder charge against Errol Williams, one of the men accused of killing fireman Patrick Daly in 2009, began yesterday with the testimonies of two witnesses.
Detective Lance Corporal Yusuf Singh and neighbour of the deceased Pinkey Khemchan both testified before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, who is presiding over the PI,
at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
They were both examined by Prosecutor Stephen Telford.
After yesterday’s hearing, the PI was adjourned to June 15, when other witnesses, including the wife of the slain fireman, are expected to take the stand.
It is alleged that Williams, also known as Kesney, in the company of Kurleigh Goodluck and Oswell Johnson armed with cutlasses, murdered Daly on September 15, 2009, at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara.
Police had said that Daly was in an outhouse in his yard when three men, with whom he had a recent misunderstanding, confronted and threw a corrosive substance on him and then inflicted several chops about his body and fled the scene. He died before receiving medical attention.
A post-mortem examination found that Daly, 30, died as a result of shock and haemorrhage due to multiple chop wounds, his reputed wife, Denise George had told this newspaper.
After the murder, the three men went on the run but were eventually captured by the police. Williams, also known as Errol Kesney, was captured in June, 2015.
