Forty-eight-year-old Tedd De Young was rushed to the Suddie Hospital but was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after his condition worsened. He succumbed yesterday afternoon while receiving medical attention.

The suspect, a 15-year-old boy, was subsequently arrested and has since been charged with attempted murder. He was remanded to the Juvenile Holding Centre, Sophia and is expected to appear in court soon.

The incident occurred on Sunday, June 12 around 23:00 hrs at Lake Capoey Mission, Essequibo Coast.

The police in a press release said they are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of De Young who was involved in an altercation with the juvenile.

Stabroek News understands that De Young and the suspect were seen together shortly before the incident and it is suspected that during this process an argument ensued during which De Young sustained several chop wounds about his body.

De Young’s relatives reportedly heard him screaming and upon investigating they discovered him lying face down on the ground, bleeding profusely. He had a gaping wound to his head.

Up to press time last evening, it was unclear what exactly led to the argument between the two.

Investigations are ongoing.
