Mon Repos woman conned friend out of $150k – court told

A Mon Repos woman was granted $30,000 bail after she denied that she conned a friend out of  $150,000, which had been given to her to deliver to the friend’s mother.

It is alleged that on February 5 at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, Asha Bandio, 22, while being entrusted by Drupattie Sankar with $150,000 to deliver to Jashoda Narine, fraudulently converted the money to her own use and benefit.

Bandio pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to her by Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Better Hope Community Centre.

According to Police Prosecu-tor David Goodridge, on the day in question, Sankar gave the money to Bandio to deliver to her mother who was in George-town. At the time, the defendant was on her way to the city and had offered to deliver the money to Narine. When the woman called her daughter to enquire about the money, Sankar told her that she had given the money to a friend for her to deliver.

Goodridge said that after four days of not hearing from Bandio, Sankar reported the matter to the Beterverwagting police station.

Bandio was subsequently arrested and charged. She was granted bail by the magistrate and the matter adjourned to July 11 for report.
