Battered Green Ice taxi driver discharged from hospital

Taxi driver Gladwyn Brandis, who was beaten and robbed almost two weeks ago during a reported carjacking, has been discharged from the hospital even as police are yet to apprehend the perpetrators.

Brandis, 44, of Lot 1170 Pigeon Place, South Ruimveldt, who is a taxi driver attached to the Green Ice taxi service, was found lying unconscious in the back seat of his car during the wee hours of June 8, with head injuries and lacerations about his body. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) by the police where he was admitted until last week Wednesday.

Brandis’ car, HC 6253, was ransacked and he was robbed of his car keys, a quantity of money, his gold chain, cellular phones and important documents by the carjackers who escaped. Prior to the incident, Brandis was seen by a colleague exiting the North Ruimveldt area with passengers in his car.

Nicole Brandis, Gladwyn’s wife said that although he has been discharged from the hospital, he is unable to return to work. She said the incident has left her husband traumatised.
