Teen shot at Kuru Kururu after argument

A teenager is at a city hospital after he was shot on Monday during an argument at Kuru Kururu, Linden Highway while on his way to visit a friend.

He has been identified by the police as Kevin Batson, 18, of Grove Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara. The incident occurred around 20:00 hours.

Batson sustained a single gunshot injury to his chest and was rushed to the Diamond Hospital. He was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital  where he underwent surgery yesterday morning and his condition is listed as critical.

The suspects, one of whom has been identified by the police as Andrew Fields, aka ‘Two feet’, 25, of Kuru Kururu Squatting Area, managed to escape.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told Stabroek News that based on information received the police are currently pursuing a suspect.

The police in a press release said Batson and the suspects were involved in an argument over a brush cutter and spray can during which Fields allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot him to  the right side of his chest.

However, information gathered by this newspaper revealed that Batson left his Grove residence early Monday evening to meet a friend in Kuru Kururu.

Upon arrival, the assailants who were on a pedal cycle rode past him and they had an exchange which resulted in an argument. It was then that Batson was shot.

He was rushed to the hospital by public-spirited citizens.
