Two held, car seized in teen shooting, taxi robbery probe

The police last evening confirmed that two suspects have been arrested and a car impounded, in relation to the robbery committed on Sunday at the Green Ice Taxi Service during which 15-year-old Jahmaul Lewis was shot.

Commander of ‘A’ Division Clifton Hicken told Stabroek News that the two men remained in custody up to late yesterday afternoon. However, he said that one of the suspects is expected to be released on bail after his 72-hour detention period would have expired.

A car similar to the one seen in CCTV footage was impounded but it is yet to be determined if it was the vehicle that was used by the perpetrators to carry out the daring daylight robbery.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon around 1 pm when three men stormed the taxi service base located at Wren Avenue, South Ruimveldt and held up the workers. It was during this process that Lewis, who was sitting on his bicycle in the yard, was shot in his head.

The police in a press release had said that Lewis allegedly had a scuffle with one of the suspects during which one round from the suspect’s firearm struck him in the face.

The employees were robbed of cellular phones and a small amount of cash and the suspects escaped in a silver Spacio car, the police had said.

Lewis was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he remained a patient in the ICU up to yesterday afternoon in a stable condition.
