Indian national banned by CPL for ‘pitch-siding’ in St Kitts

GEORGETOWN, Guyana,  CMC – Caribbean Premier League organisers today reiterated their commitment to stamping out corruption in the game after banning an Indian national from attending the competition for live betting during a game at Warner Park.

The individual was caught “pitch-siding” – relaying real-time information on ongoing games back to bookies – during last Tuesday’s contest between St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Barbados Tridents and subsequently ejected.

“I would like to reiterate CPL’s unwavering commitment to protecting and enhancing the reputation of the game of cricket,” said Damien O’Donohoe, chief executive of the CPL.

“The individual in question has been dealt with swiftly and this statement will undoubtedly deter any future unscrupulous behaviour at our games.

“The Hero CPL has a zero tolerance policy towards any forms of corruption or illegal activity and will deal with it quickly and effectively through the appropriate channels.

“We are working closely with all our partners – including the ICC, the police and ground security in each of the Hero CPL venues – and would like to thank them for their ongoing efforts on our behalf.”

The Indian national was caught as a result of monitoring conducted by the International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) headed by Sir Ronnie Flanagan.

CPL said the individual’s details would be shared with key international representative bodies so as to block his future activity.
