Two brothers were yesterday remanded to prison by a city magistrate on charges of possession of marijuana.

It is alleged that on July 6, in the Central Rupununi, Nelson Gordon, 27, and Arnold Gordon, 23, of St. Ignatius, had in their possession nine and six grammes of cannabis, respectively.
Both brothers pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Additionally, it was alleged that Arnold also had in his possession 146 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. He also pleaded not guilty to the offence when the charge was read to him by Magistrate Judy Latchman.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, who objected to bail, told the court that if the brothers are granted bail they may not return to the city court since they live in Region Nine.
Magistrate Latchman subsequently remanded the men to prison and the proceedings were adjourned until July 11, when they will appear in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court One.
