Although Dataram’s attorney, Glenn Hanoman, was a no show for a second consecutive hearing, he sent a letter to trial magistrate Judy Latchman to request the adjournment.

Dataram, his common-law wife Anjanie Boodnarine, Kevin Charran, and Trevor Gouveia are on trial for the alleged possession of 129.230 kilogrammes of cocaine (equivalent to 284 pounds) that were found at his Lot 661 Silver Dam, Fourth Avenue, Diamond Housing Scheme house.

Magistrate Latchman said that Hanoman, in the letter that was sent to her, indicated that he wished to seek an adjournment in the matter due to the funeral of someone close.

Meanwhile, Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) prosecutor Konyo Sandiford-Thompson moved to have witnesses in the trial be bound over by the magistrate to the next court date.

Magistrate Latchman subsequently ordered CANU officer Andrew Yarde and other witnesses to be back in court on August 10, when the matter is due to be heard again.
