The court heard that on July 10 at Georgetown, Michael Hyles broke and entered the home of Deoraj Jagdeo and stole $1, 800,000 and two silver rings valued $20,000 which totalled $1,820,000. Hyles pleaded guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Magistrate Fabayo Azore.

According to the police prosecutor, on the day in question, the virtual complainant secured his home and went to Berbice.  When he returned from his trip he discovered that a few articles were missing from his home. The virtual complainant quickly reported the matter to the police and the suspect in the matter was contacted. According to the prosecutor when the police went to Hyles’ home and searched they found one of the missing articles and other items that were suspected to have been bought with the stolen money.

Before Magistrate Azore handed down her sentence, Hyles agreed that the facts that were said by the prosecutor were true and as such he begged for leniency from the court.
