A city court heard that on July 12, at Werk-en-Rust, Oswald Mathew, 44, of 9 Robb Street, Bourda, armed with a cutlass, robbed Eron Shepherd of a cell phone, valued $25,000, and $1,500. Matthews, who was unrepresented by an attorney, pleaded not guilty to the charge, when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

Police prosecutor Deniro Jones firmly objected to bail based on the nature and the prevalence of the offence. The prosecutor also noted that Matthews gave the police a different address to the one that he provided to the court.

According to Matthews, the address which he gave to the police was that of his bicycle shop.

The Chief Magistrate subsequently remanded the accused to prison until his next court date, which is September 9.
