The United States Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigations concluded its 3-day financial and intelligence training in Guyana at the Guyana Police Force Officers’ Training Centre on Thursday, a release from the US Embassy said today.
The course aimed to provide foreign law enforcement personnel with a baseline understanding of how to fully integrate financial intelligence into criminal probes, the release said.
The training comes at a time of heightened interest as to how the security agencies here are proceeding with a range of investigations stemming from audits of state agencies and other probes.
Course topics, the release said, included information on the basic tools needed to uncover the trails of money that support terrorist activity, generated by narcotics cartels, or result from other illegal operations. The goals were to apply financial analysis techniques to improve investigative assessment of intelligence target operations and to prepare financial analyses.
Earlier this year, the United States Ambassador Perry Holloway also handed over remote video training equipment valued at over $23,000 to Guyana Police Force Commissioner Seelall Persaud at the event and pledged his Government’s “support for similar type activities that could ultimately lead to enhancing the security of Caribbean nations.”
