Power outage after excavator causes trees to fall at Ithaca

An excavator being operated by the Mahaica, Mahaicony, Abary-Agricultural Development Authority (MMA/ADA) came into contact with trees within close proximity of GPL’s transmission and distribution system at Ithaca causing some trees to fall onto the Network. As a result of this, several feeders tripped causing an outage at 10:55hrs today which affected customers from Canje to Moleson Creek, East Berbice.

At approximately 13:10 hrs, GPL said that electricity was restored to customers from No. 76 Village to Moleson Creek while remedial work continues on the compromised sections of the network. It is expected that customers from No. 75 Village to Canje will be repowered by 18:00hrs today.
