Soldier granted bail over stolen cellphone

A soldier based at Camp Ayanganna was on Wednesday granted bail in the sum of $10,000, on a charge of having a stolen cell phone in his possession.

It is alleged that on July 18, at Croal Street, Georgetown, Ashton Cummings, 25, of 165 Yarrowkabra, Linden-Soesdyke Highway, had in his possession, a cellular phone belonging to Daniella Allicock, knowing same to be stolen.

Cummings pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones did not object to Cummings being granted bail.

However, according to the virtual complainant who was present in court, her phone had not yet been returned to her by the police or the accused.

The chief magistrate granted Cummings bail and ordered him to return to court on August 8 for report.
