Bandits threaten to take off with toddler during robbery

A young couple who recently moved into their home at Lot 139 Gangaram Village, East Canje and took over a grocery shop, is now fearful after bandits early yesterday morning held a gun to their four-year-old daughter and threatened abduction, while robbing them.

Yadram Doorasammy, 24, told Stabroek News that around 2 am yesterday, they heard a loud smashing sound. Before they could get up, two masked men dressed in black were already in their bedroom. The men had broken their entire louvre window.

He said, “Them haul abie out from the bed and them say not to holler, if abie holler them gon shoot abie.”

According to the couple, the men who were armed with one gun and one cutlass ordered them to bring all of their money from the shop and all of their jewellery. The couple handed over what they had but it wasn’t enough.

Doorasammy’s wife said, “Me tell am abie na get nothing more. He hold me daughter and point the gun at she and say if me na get nothing to give him, he go carry way me daughter.”

One of the perpetrators then took Yadram Doorasammy to the shop and hit him until he handed over the money which was in the shop. The perpetrators made their escape with approximately $190,000 in jewellery and $45,000 in cash.

However, the couple commended the members of the Community Policing Group and ranks attached to the Reliance Police Station for responding quickly to their call.

Meanwhile according to neighbours, the perpetrators came on bicycles and made their escape through the public road.
