Cara Lodge celebrated its 20th Anniversary in the hospitality industry in Guyana on July 28 with an Awards ceremony and the announcement of two gifts of sponsorship.
Nine employees with 20 years of service were rewarded, along with another seven who had ten years, according to a press release from the hotel. Cara will be sponsoring the publication of a book of the articles and research of renowned Guyanese historian, Sister Noel Menezes, and is offering an internship of two years with training both here and in Trinidad, along with a guaranteed job offer, to one of the residents at the Mercy Boys Home.
Cara Lodge held a formal celebration with its supporters and customers two Fridays ago, at the former Woodbine House, one of the oldest buildings in Georgetown, added the release. Minister of Business, with responsibility for Tourism, Dominic Gaskin congratulated Cara on its achievement and contribution to Guyana.
Cara Lodge was started by Shaun McGrath and Paul Stephenson, the “Guyrish boys”, explained Jocelyn Dow of Heritage, who commended them for their commitment to keep the original feel of the house whilst still offering guests modern facilities. The Woodbine House had been a centre of arts and politics for many years, and the home of the Georgetown Philharmonic Orchestra and the Guyana School of Ballet, she added.
