Venezuelan woman jailed for having ammo

A Venezuelan national was yesterday sentenced to three years in jail by a city court after she admitted to illegal possession of ammunition.

Paz Pino was read the charge which stated that on August 1, at Aurora Mountain Top, Essequibo, she had in her possession 10 live rounds of .380-calibre ammunition without being the holder of a firearm. After pleading guilty to the offence with the aid of an interpreter, Pino was then sentenced to three years in jail by Magistrate Leron Daly.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Oniel Nelbert was charged with having a 12-gauge single barrel shotgun and three live 12-gauge cartridges without being the holder of a firearm licence.

Nelbert, of Lot 12 La Grange, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge and he was remanded to prison until September 15.
