Intruder says he broke into woman’s home because she gossiped about him

A Houston man was yesterday sentenced to 18 months in prison for breaking into a woman’s home because she gossiped about him.

The court of Magistrate Annette Singh heard that on August 11, at McDoom, East Bank Demerara, Kevin Christopher, 20, of Houston Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, broke and entered the home of Elizabeth Johnson with intent to commit a felony.

Christopher pleaded guilty to the charge.

According to the police prosecutor, Johnson secured her apartment and retired to bed and the next morning, she awoke to find Christopher, whom she knows, in her home. The prosecutor said Johnson raised an alarm and Christopher ran away. The matter was then reported to the police and he was later arrested.

When Christopher was given a chance to address the court, he told the magistrate that he committed the crime because Johnson went around and talked his name.

The accused was later sentenced to 18 months in jail for the offence by the magistrate. She also suggested that he seek help or a psychiatrist since he showed no remorse for breaking into the woman’s home.
