Ramayya resigns as Region 6 REO

Following months of controversy, the Ministry of Communities today announced that Regional Executive Officer of Region 6 Dr Veerasammy Ramayya has resigned.

Ramayya has been at loggerheads with the Regional Administration for months with accusations of him not functioning adequately in his position. Only last month the Regional Administration informed the media the REO had abandoned his position which was followed by a statement from the Ministry informing than Ramayya had proceeded on leave. The REO also had issues with the Chief Executive Officer of the New Amsterdam Hospital Colin Bynoe whom he had accused of assaulting him when he visited the hospital. Ramayya, a former AFC parliamentarian, had resigned from the Alliance For Change shortly after the coalition Government’s victory last year and it was stated that he was not comfortable with the job given to him by the new government. He later returned to the fold after being appointed REO.
