Cops seeking legal advice over murder of 13-year-old

The police are expected to seek legal advice today in relation to laying of charges against the three persons who allegedly murdered 13-year-old Daveanand Sanichar on Sunday night.

A senior police official last evening told Stabroek News that a case file will be sent today for legal advice on the way forward.

Sanichar called ‘Dave’ of Lot 83-84 Plantain Walk, Triumph, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was chopped and beaten to death around 11.30 pm on Sunday at Plantain Walk Access Road, Triumph, ECD, outside a ‘wedding house’. The suspected murder weapon, a cutlass, was recovered in a trench.

The three persons who were arrested shortly after the incident remained in custody up to late last evening.

The police had said in a press release that investigations revealed that Sanichar was attending a function in the village when he and some men had an altercation over “a female”. Sanichar subsequently left and returned with a cutlass, after which a further argument ensued and one of the men dealt Sanichar a chop to his head.  “Whilst on the ground, he was given a severe beating with a stick,” the police said.

The teen’s mother Sookdai Sanichar said she is determined to find out the circumstances under which her son met his demise. She said while different stories are being told, she has not received answers as to why he was brutally killed.

The woman said after she learnt yesterday that Sanichar was killed over a girl, she tried to enquire further but only got sketchy information. “They saying he did dancing with a girl from this area and the boy [a suspect] see and get vex… [because] he did dancing wid the girl fuss. But I can’t see why they would want to kill my son for that,” Sookdai said.

Sookdai said the girl alleged to be at the centre of the row is known to her but it is unclear what may have triggered the brutality meted out to her son. “One time I even hearing that one of the men, after they call my son outside, kick he up and throw he in the trench… before they chop he and kill he. All this hurt my heart,” the weeping mother related.

The woman is determine to receive justice.
