Teen killed in road crash after car hits utility pole

A family outing ended deadly on Monday afternoon when a teenager died after her stepfather lost control of the car he was driving and slammed into a utility pole at Dundee Public Road, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.

Fifteen-year-old Julia Ronald of New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara and a student of Mae’s Secondary School died on spot.

Her mother Paula Ronald and four-year-old sister Nina Ronald sustained minor injuries and were taken to a city hospital where they were treated and sent away; her brother escaped uninjured.

The driver of the car, PNN 4887, was taken into police custody and is assisting with investigations.

At the time of the accident which occurred around 1.30 pm on Monday the family was reportedly heading to Corentyne, Berbice to visit relatives.

According to reports reaching Stabroek News, the driver was proceeding along the East Coast Demerara Public Road when he lost control of the car.

Several efforts made to contact the family yesterday proved futile.
