Port Mourant woman scared after robbery

An Ankerville, Port Mourant, Berbice woman is now scared to live in the area after she was robbed and beaten by two men.

Emileen Jas Cyril, 57, told Stabroek News that it was around 6 pm on Tuesday, when the two men armed with knives pounced on her. She said, “Them throw me down pon the bed and tell me na fa holla or them go kill me. One a them tell me if me keep noise them go bore me with the knife.”

According to the woman, one of the perpetrators dealt her a lash to her head, rendering her unconscious. She stated that when she regain consciousness the jewellery she had on was gone.  Cyril lives with her sister Malawattie Ramcharran, 81, and her 22-year-old granddaughter. The men also stole an undisclosed amount of jewellery from Ramcharran. Cyril explained that she lost her husband some time ago and hence she moved in with her relatives. The woman is now living in fear.

However, according to a police source, two men have been arrested from the Port Mourant area in connection with the robbery.

Meanwhile, a 13-seater boat and a 140 Yahama outboard engine valued at $955,000 were stolen from Andy Schultz, 32, a pump operator from Lot 543 Mi Mi Dam Angoy’s Avenue. According to information gathered, Schultz secured his boat on Tuesday at the Canje Creek, Sheet Anchor location and visited a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital. When Schultz returned his boat with the engine had gone. Investigations are ongoing.
